ALPINE GLORY, IMPERIAL SPLENDOUR

The pomp and grandeur of Europe are at its finest in Vienna, the capital famous as much for its long history of classical music and traditional Austrian desserts as it is for bold, modern architecture and international cuisine. Music lovers flock to Vienna for the chance to hear the Strauss Waltzes, aspiring architects come for the work of Hundertwasser and Alfred Loos and everyone comes to stroll through the monuments and parks of Ringstrasse. In Vienna you’ll find eclectic wine bars and elegant bistros, cozy cafes and trendy bars, imperial ambience and casual chic. It is a city of contrasts that has grown and evolved to remain the jewel of Central Europe.

Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe, characterized by its mountain villages, baroque city architecture, Imperial history and rugged alpine terrain. Vienna, its Danube River capital, is home to the Schonbrunn and Hofburg palaces, and has counted Mozart, Strauss and Sigmund Freud among its residents. The country’s other notable regions include the northern Bohemian Forest, Lake Traun and eastern hillside vineyards.

Austria is located in Central Europe. Austria is a predominantly mountainous country with a total area of 83,855 km2. Its border is formed by eight other European countries, namely Italy, Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. Vienna is the capital of Austria and lies on the Danube River and is partly surrounded by the hills of the Vienna Woods (Wienerwald).

No other European country offers such a variety of landscapes, climatic conditions and flora.

  • Vienna, impregnated with world history and rich in priceless art treasures;
  • the Danube Valley, marked by ruined castles and vineyards;
  • the Vienna Woods, of which you can hardly think of without humming a waltz;
  • Salzburg, the town of Mozart, and the Salzkammergut, dotted with lakes and pastoral villages;
  • the Tyrolean Alps, their snowy summits, given over to the skiers and lovers of mountaineering;
  • the charm of Graz, the capital of verdant Styria;
  • and the wistful horizons of the Burgenland stretching into the Hungarian plains in the easternmost part of the country.

Coming to Austria means being in intimate contact with all the facets of traditional and contemporary art. In countless museums and galleries all over Austria you find displays of the finest of art: from Old Masters to the contemporary, from the incalculably precious to the amusingly curios, Austria invites you to have a good look at its varied collections. Vienna and Salzburg are the world’s musical capitals; music is an integral element of any visit to our country and is present everywhere.

Vienna

The pomp and grandeur of Europe are at its finest in Vienna, the capital famous as much for its long history of classical music and traditional Austrian desserts as it is for bold, modern architecture and international cuisine. Music lovers flock to Vienna for the chance to hear the Strauss Waltzes, aspiring architects come for the work of Hundertwasser and Alfred Loos and everyone comes to stroll through the monuments and parks of Ringstrasse. Salzburg

Nestled in the northern range of the Alps on the banks of the Salzach River, Salzburg is one of the most well preserved cities in Europe. And with less than 150,000 inhabitants, it is a mini metropolis with a gigantic reputation. Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the setting for the Sound of Music and home to some of the finest baroque architecture found anywhere. The landscape of the city is dominated by the Fortress Hohensalzburg with the Gardens of Mirabell Palace and the Salzburg Cathedral carved out on either side of the river. Stroll down the historic Getreidegasse with the sounds of live classical music soothing you as you wind your way in and out of the old town boutiques. Sip your coffee at CafΓ© Tomaselli, the oldest coffeehouse in Austria. Or dine in one of Salzburg’s many gourmet eateries. No matter how you spend your day, Salzburg rewards every visitor with easy charm and grace.

Tyrol

This Alpine province in the western tail of Austria is famous for its world-class skiing, ice blue lakes, frozen glaciers and picturesque mountain villages. And while the winter attractions bring visitors from all over the world, it is the summer sports that inspire the adventurous Tyrolean spirit. Learn to canyon in the wild falls of the Alps, kayak down the Inn river or mountain bike from village to village stopping at the tucked away huts and inns along the path. Take time out to have a pint of Hefeweissen, eat some homemade dumplings and visit with the locals who may be wearing fine lederhosen and traditional felt caps adorned with emblematic edelweiss pins. Even in summer. Tyroleans have a strong sense of regional identity and have preserved their culture and traditions and many remain an integral part of everyday life.
